I got a note from The American Heart & Stroke Association!  It said:

Hi PeaceHealth team,

Happy Heart & Stroke Walk Wednesday! The countdown continues to our Vancouver and Portland Heart & Stroke Walks. Thank you all for your passion and drive to recruit walkers and raise lifesaving funds. Below is your progress to date and tips and tools to continue the movement.

To date PeaceHealth has raised $5,438 towards your $10,000 goal and recruited 117 walkers! Congratulation to team The Hard Hats~Restructuring Our Lives After Stroke, for leading the way!

Hi! My name is Joanie Peckels. I had a carotid dissection 24 years ago when I was 35. When I had my stroke I was totally paralyzed on my right side and I could not speak at all for 2 weeks. During that time I could not read or add 1 and 1 together and was not able to identify objects placed in front of me. I had two little kids aged 6 and 8. I was right handed but now I’m left handed for the second half of my life! I have come a long way and now, I volunteer at PeaceHeath SW hospital as a Stroke Ambassador and I am a grandma! I have helped run the PeaceHealth Stroke and Brain Injury Group with the Stroke Coordinators there for about 16 years.

My contact info is 360-907-4457 or strokeambassador@gmail.com

Keep on scrolling for Zoom info!

The Heart & Stroke Walk on May 18, 2024 has a check in at 7:30am but the Walk doesn't start until 9:00am!  We will meet at Esther Short Park by the clock tower 8:30 to take a group picture! That is where the Walk starts too!

Please sign up to be a walker if you want to participate! Just go to my page by clicking on the link below!

Hi Stroke & Brain Injury Group!

This years Heart & Stroke Walk will be Saturday, May 18, 2024!!  I’ll ride my recumbent trike, and those that can’t walk a long distance will be in their wheelchairs, track chairs or scooters!

It will be 25 years since my stroke this year in August! My grand babies are getting bigger!  Allie is 4 and Brooks is 2!  I've had a new challenge!  I am now watching the kiddos by myself and have mastered a poopy diaper with one hand!

Meanwhile, I stay active with my Stroke & Brain Injury Support Group with weekly Zoom meetings, a monthly in person meeting at Boomerang Therapy Works (they will walk with my team too again this year! Last year they provided us with T-shirts with both our organizations on them), and now we’ve added a monthly lunch get-together!

So please help my awesome Stroke & Brain Injury Support Group, The Hard Hats~Restructuring Our Lives After Stroke, raise some funds for an organization that is near and dear to our hearts!

Here is my link to my team page.  You can donate there or not.  If you want to donate by check, write a check to the American Heart & Stroke Association and mail it to me. My address is 2317 NW 146th St, Vancouver, WA 98685.  Either way, please sign up as a walker!  No donation is too small!
