Hi Friends & Family!

I’m kind of behind in getting this out this year!  Covid swept though our whole family and just when I was feeling better, I got Rebound Covid!!  But, I’m on the mend and everybody else is doing great!

This year the Heart & Stroke Walk will be Saturday, May 20, 2023!!  I’ll ride my recumbent trike, and those that can’t walk a long distance will be in their wheelchairs, track chairs or scooters!

It will be 24 years since my stroke this year in August! My grand babies are getting bigger!  Three and one!  I can watch Allie by herself now but if it’s Allie and Brooks together I definitely need help! My neighbor Diana who has helped me these last three years, joined a hiking group.  Her first time out with them she fell and broke her leg and foot!!  My friends Marcia, Debbie and the kiddos other grandpa, Mike, have been stepping up while Diana heals!  And Ken has taken several days off.

Meanwhile, I stay active with my Stroke & Brain Injury Support Group with weekly Zoom meetings, a monthly in person meeting at Boomerang Therapy Works (they will walk with my team too again this year! Last year they provided us with T-shirts with both our organizations on them), and now we’ve added a monthly lunch get-together!

So please help my awesome Stroke & Brain Injury Support Group, The Hard Hats-Restructuring Our Lives After Stroke, raise some funds for an organization that is near and dear to our hearts.

Here is my link to my team page.  You can donate there or not.  If you want to donate by check, write a check to the American Heart & Stroke Association and mail it to me. My address is 2317 NW 146th St, Vancouver, WA 98685.  Either way, please sign up as a walker!  No donation is too small!

Meet at Esther Short Park Clock Tower for a group photo at 8:00am, 610 Esther St.  Check-in opens 7:30am.  Walk begins at 9:00am!! Route length: 1-mile survivor & 3-mile options.

Thank you so much!!

Survivors Helping Survivors Connect with people who know what you are going through.
Hi! My name is Joanie Peckels. I had a carotid dissection 23 years ago when I was 35. When I had my stroke I was totally paralyzed on my right side and I could not speak at all for 2 weeks. During that time I could not read or add 1 and 1 together. I had two little kids aged 6 and 8. I was right handed but now I’m left handed for the second half of my life! I have come a long way and now, I volunteer at PeaceHeath SW hospital as a Stroke Ambassador and I am a grandma! I have helped run the PeaceHealth Stroke and Brain Injury Group with the Stroke Coordinators there for about 15 years.

My contact info is 360-907-4457 or strokeambassador@gmail.com
